Main Duty Station and Location: Phnom Penh/ Cambodia
Mission/s to: Local travels in course of assignment, when needed, will be authorized through separate travel requests
Start of Contract (EOD):1 May 2021
End of Contract (COB): 31 October 2021
Number of Working Days: 6 months (with the possibility of extension, after successful completion of probationary period of 6 months)
In this context, UNIDO is recruiting a qualified national Interpretation/Translation Assistant with duties as given in the table below. He/she will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), under the responsibility of the Project Manager in Vienna, in close cooperation with the project counterparts (mainly the Fisheries Administration), the UNIDO Country Representative and project team.
Duties
- Translate a variety of materials, particularly legal, and other technical documentation/ manuals/ guidelines etc., from Khmer to English and vice versa, with attention to fact, so that the intent and tone of the original meaning is preserved.
- 2. Edit, standardize, proofread, revise and finalize translated material prepared by experts, project staff and contractors.
- Compile terminology and information to be used in translations, including technical terms such as those for legal or food safety.
- Interpret the speeches and proceedings of the workshops/conferences/seminars and other project related events, etc. as needed.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA).
Requirements
- MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Completed secondary education. Formal secretarial/clerical training or equivalent desirable. Credit towards total working experience may be considered on a year by-year- basis, up to maximum of four years, for a first university degree or equivalent diploma, in a field relevant to the post. Certification in English language is considered an asset.
- Technical and Functional Experience: A minimum of 8 years of relevant working experience in the related fields to the post, such as assistance in translation and interpretation, preferably within the UN system or in a multicultural environment. Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), internet.
- Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and Khmer is required.
